Mental Health Access ServiceThe Mental Health Access Service is for individuals and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who may experience difficulties due to concerns with mental and emotional well-being. The project coordinated through the Fremantle Multicultural Centre, is funded by WA Mental Health Commission. The Mental Health Access Service specifically aims to improve the accessibility of mental health services to people from CALD backgrounds. Individual client support will be provided through:
Information Providing information on Mental Health and relevant support services
Referrals Linking individuals and families to suitable services Advocacy Enchancing awareness of cultural diversity Representing the needs of migrant and refugees Support Providing culturally sensitive support to individuals and families. Working in partnership with mental health services to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate assistance
Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention
Liasing with service providers and ethnic communities to provide community education to increase awareness of menatl health and wellbeing. As part of this program Art Classes are held at FMC every Wednesday between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.
The MHAS works in partnership with public and community mental health services to complement existing services. The service assists mental health services to provide appropriate support services to people with mental illness and their relatives by acting as a consultant on broader cultural issues impacting on service delivery.
